Quick Excerpts Of Wedding And Proposal Stories Part 3
In February 2002 Ben decided we were going on a holiday. All I was told was to bring a change of clothes for the week, togs, and a nice dress. On the night of Valentines, we had a stretch limo to Cowrie where we had a stunning sea food course with sparkling white wine. He kept staring at me all night I got paranoid I had something on my face, to which he answered, “Can’t I stare at the one I love?” he looked so nervous. I thought it was the sea food! After dessert, we were taken back to our cottage where we then left for a walk along the beach. He then stopped, told me how special I was to him and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, got down on one knee and proposed. There was a beaming beach light behind me, which reflected on Ben and the beach like the perfect moonlit night. I was so happy and excited I squealed, jumped up and down and said yes. Of course I hugged him. We were so lost in the moment that we totally forgot about the ring until we were about to walk back to our cottage. It was perfect.
Our reception was held at the Novotel Brisbane. I wanted it to be different, one to be remembered!! We had the bridal table raised above the guests that worked out fabulously so everyone could see us and we could see them. No guest was sitting with their back to us, we wanted to see their happy faces enjoying themselves on our special day. The centrepieces consisted of a hurricane lamp and candle surround by a wreath of flowers. Behind the bridal table was a fairy light wall, which only added to the romantic atmosphere. After floating on a cloud during our bridal waltz “All I want is you” by U2, everyone was up dancing for the rest of the evening, to end the day in style.
Three years later on that very same day Jas took me out for a romantic dinner overlooking the Murray River for our anniversary. After dinner we sat on a park bench whereby Jas surprised me, by asking me to marry him. He presented me with a silver box which contained a cut out picture of a diamond ring. It popped out to me when I opened it. I couldn’t believe it. I was ecstatic and I kept on having to ask him if he was serious before I could really digest what had actually happened. Naturally I said “Yes” and afterwards we went and had ice-cream, and took a romantic stroll along the river. I was still in disbelief, but on cloud nine just the same.
We were married on Main Beach, Noosa Heads, on a small grassy clearing which seemed to be made just for us. We had the water and sand in the background, so the guests had something lovely to look at whilst we were professing our love for each other…in case they got bored (ha, ha). Mark looked so handsome, very smart and he was in all black with a charcoal tie. Jackson was matching!
Jason had planned to propose to me during the month of September. He designed the ring and took it to Michael Wilson to weave his magic. September turned out to be a very sad month. September 11 happened, and it knocked us all around for quite a while. During the same month, the collapse of Ansett also occurred. Jason works for the travel industry, so you can just imagine what the following months were like for him! It was not the time or the place to be getting engaged. We had planned a weekend away to Mt Buffalo.
Sixteen months later we became husband and wife in front of 80 of our closest friends and family. It was a truly amazing day! Everyone told me that the day would whiz by, and it did, but a friend told me at our reception that we should pick a “moment” and remember it forever. Though I have many “moments” the one I will never forget is looking into Marcus’ eyes as I walked down the aisle. It was as if I was seeing him again for the very first time. Although I was fighting back tears, I was beaming through and through. I was about to marry the man of my dreams – the good-looking guy I’d spotted across the room a little over two years earlier. Nothing could take away from that moment!
